Barbara Jane Martin

Barbara Jane Martin passed away on April 29, 2011. She was born on December 15, 1912 in Pittsburgh, PA. As a child, she lived in Mexico where she became fluent in Spanish. She continued her education at Classen High School, Oklahoma City University, and The University of Oklahoma. Her church homes were First Presbyterian in Oklahoma City and Chisholm Trail Presbyterian in Yukon. A beloved first grade teacher, she taught at Nichols Hills Elementary School for 34 years. Upon retirement she moved to Spanish Cove Retirement Village founded by her husband Earl Martin. Barbara was preceded in death by her husband and her son Bill Martin. She is survived by a brother Tom Sawhill of St. Louis, a daughter Jane Anne Slane and husband George Slane, daughter-in-law Susan Martin of Boston, Massachusetts, and grandchildren Jamie, Tad and Jon Martin and Heather and Eric Slane. She was loved and will be missed by those who knew her. Thank you to all of her caregivers at Spanish Cove and especially Maggie.
