Barbara was born on October 18th, 1932 to Newt and Verdi Mitchell in Bethany, Oklahoma. She attended Bethany high school where she made many lifelong friends. She was a cheerleader and was selected Band Queen her senior year.
Barbara married the love of her life, Jim Duncan in 1954. They had four children, Debbie, David, Brian, and Janie, whom she lovingly devoted her time and energy to. Once grown, she then went to work for KTVY TV as a sales assistant.
Barbara and Jim retired together and she spent her time making sure those around her were well loved, happy and healthy. She enjoyed cooking, painting, and gardening, something her and Jim often did together. Barbara also hosted family and friends for countless games of Dominos and OU Football games, resulting in memories that are the highlight of many family conversations to this day.
Barbara loved like no other. She never left anyone’s presence without saying “I love you” even if it was a new acquaintance. She was the most nonjudgmental person and loved unconditionally making everyone feel that in her presence, they were the most important person in the room. She will be missed beyond measure.
Barbara was preceded in death by her husband Jim, her brother David, sister in law Jocelyn, and brother in law Hall.
Barbara is survived by her four children, five grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
A memorial service for Barbara will be held Saturday, July 29, 2023, at 10:00 AM at Memorial Park Funeral Home, 13313 North Kelley, Oklahoma City, OK 73131. A graveside service will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
