Ann Ellen (Smith) Sexton was born November 28, 1940, to Houston and Odessa Smith in Sylacauga, AL. She attended school at BB Comer High, graduating in 1957. On August 5, 1960, she married Earl Sexton of Sycamore, AL. Together, they had two daughters: Donna Lynne and Cynthia Dianne. After moving several times to different states for his job, the family finally settled in Edmond, OK when the girls were still in elementary and middle school. But to Ann, Alabama was always her true home, and it was her dream to one day go back there to stay.
Ann was a person who never asked "Why me?" It was her faith in God and her positive outlook that got her through breast cancer, for which she was a 35-year survivor. Even through constant back pain, and then later short-term memory struggles with the onset of Alzheimer's, her positive outlook on life and her smile and laughter never faded.
Passing away one day after her 83rd birthday, she is preceded in death by her parents Houston and Odessa Smith, an infant brother, brother Millard Smith, sister Dorothy "Dot" Bearden, infant granddaughter Kayci Pickard, daughter Donna Smith, and sister-in-law Betty McCaleb who was her best friend and more of a sister.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Earl Sexton; daughter Dianne Pickard, who adored her mom so very much; son-in-law Kevin Pickard, who for the past 40 years was the son Ann never had; 5 grandchildren: Dustin "Dusty" Smith, Justin Smith, Perry Pickard, Kayla Pickard, Kaitlyn Pickard; 2 great-grandchildren: Dixie Smith & Jaxson Smith, all of whom were the loves of her life; brother Lynn Allen Smith; brother-in-law Brice Sexton; sisters-in-law Nell Sexton & Glenda Watson; along with many nieces & nephews.
