She was born on August 12, 1930 in Roanoke, Virginia. Alma completed an accelerated nursing program and graduated with an RN degree from the University of Virginia in 1951. She married Webb M. Thompson, Jr. on November 6th, 1953.
Alma worked as a nurse in Virginia and Cleveland before retiring in 1960. In 1964, she and her family moved to Oklahoma City.
Alma was a very devoted Christian. She served in many capacities at All Souls Episcopal Church including Sunday school teacher, ECW member and
President, Fleur de Lis, and Vestry member. She also kept her hand in nursing by being an active member of the Visiting Nurse Association, including serving as
President and Chairman, for many years.
Alma was a very kind, generous, and strong woman. She is survived by her brother Benny and her 6 children – Webb Thompson, III of OKC, Susan Narr of Houston, TX, Sally Field of Fincastle, VA, Beth Leister of Fort Defiance, AZ, Anne Fontenot of Corpus Christie, TX, and Jackie Gross of OKC. She is also survived by her most cherished grandchildren – Beth and Emily Field; Kate, Ted and Emi Leister, Maggie, Matt, Malin, and Max Fontenot; and Olivia and Jack Gross. Alma was preceded in death by her loving husband Webb, her parents Howell Tillman and Annie Alma, her sister Betty, and her brother Howell Lee. A special thanks to her friend, caretaker, and Godsend Essie Green.
A funeral service will be held at All Souls Episcopal Church on Tuesday, May 24th at 3:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Alzheimer’s Association, All Souls Episcopal Church children’s and youth programs, or the charity of your choice.
