Allene B. Mize went home to be with the Lord on April 4, 2011 at the age of 101. She was born January 3, 1910 in Washington, OK. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Frank, and her son, Jack. She is survived by her son, Rex, and wife, Elaine, and three children, Joey, Donna, and Johnny; a grandson, Tommy Mize, and wife, Jenny, and two great-grandchildren, Faith and Tinley; a grandson, Clay Mize, and wife, Brittany, and two great-grandchildren, Heidi, and Haley; a granddaughter, Deanna Anderson-Shelton, and two great-grandchildren, Jona, and KJ; and a grandson, Michael Mize.
Mrs. Mize was a life-long educator. As a young woman, she taught at the Lindsey Ridge School near Blanchard, OK. She taught in the Putnam City School District, and later became the first television math teacher on OETA. She earned her Bachelor’s degree at Oklahoma City University where she later taught for several years. Mrs. Mize earned her Master’s degree from the University of Oklahoma.
She was a long-time member of the Portland Avenue Baptist Church having joined in 1946. She taught adults and intermediates in Sunday School. Mrs. Mize went to Falls Creek with the youth and was very active in the Woman’s Missionary Union. She is attributed with starting the church library.
She was a very active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Poetry Club, and after retirement she took up painting signing her paintings as “A. Mize.” She will be remembered as intelligent, thoughtful, kind, considerate, loving, compassionate, and a friend who wanted to help all and who loved her Lord and His Word.
