Albert William Bode, II 84, passed away March 28, 2017 at the San Luis Valley Regional Medical Center in Colorado with his loving wife and family by his side. Albert was born on October 11, 1932 in Cincinnati, Ohio, the son of Albert H. Bode and Dorothy Mercer Bode. Albert was united in marriage to Jeanette Ainsworth Bode on April 16, 1955 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. They shared a long and happy union until his passing.
Al attended Carnegie Institute of Technology and the University of Cincinnati, where he received his Bachelor’s Degree of Science in Architecture in 1957. He graduated with honors and was the recipient of the Society of Ohio Award of Merit in Architecture. He worked as an architect for many years, he was a founding partner of Glover-Smith-Bode, Inc., Architects and Planners based out of Oklahoma City. Al lived an extraordinary life and was a part of many organizations such as the American Institute of Architects, President of the Board of Governors of Licensed Architects of Oklahoma; Natural Council of Architectural Registration Boards; General Services Administration Public Advisory Panel on Architectural Services for Region 7; Honorary Director of Oklahoma Shakespeare in the Park; Citizens Advisory Group for the Oklahoma County Juvenile Justice Center; Preservation Oklahoma Organization; Stockyards City Main Street Board of Directors and the Stockyards Lions Club. Al was a contributing author on "The Courthouse: A Planning and design Guide for court facilities." He also assisted on the book "Shaping a new order in the court," published by the national letter for juvenile justice. After retirement Al and his wife moved to Colorado, in the Bear Creek area, where he enjoyed and spent the last years of his life. They loved everything about this beautiful place and enjoyed there time there. He left a legacy to be remembered and will be missed by all who knew him.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 62 years, Jeanette Bode, of Antonito, CO; children Pamela Jones, Mark Bode, Grace Porter, Elaine Hill, Albert Bode; seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; sister Faye Anne Zuckerman of Michigan. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4-6 p.m. Friday. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, April 8th at First Christian Church, 201 E. 2nd Street, Edmond with interment following in Fairlawn Cemetery, Oklahoma City.
Contribution may be made, in Al Bode's name, to the Oncology Dept. of San Luis Health at 106 Blanca Avenue in Alamosa, CO 81101.
