Abbie Arnold Amend was born December 16, 1964 to loving parents, Danny Raymond and Diana Gail (Norlin) Arnold. The Arnold’s lived in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, where Abbie enjoyed her childhood and teenage years. Abbie attended grade school at Heritage Hall and went on to graduate from the University of Oklahoma with a Bachelor’s of Science in Sonography in 1987. She was also a member of the American Registry Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) and First Presbyterian Church of Edmond.
Abbie was a kind, sincere woman who caught the eye of her future husband, Anthony “Toney” Eugene Amend. They met at Southwest Medical Center where they worked together in the Radiology Department. During their 30 years of marriage they added to their beautiful family, two children, Dylan Ray Amend and Sophie Ana-Maria Amend. It’s almost like motherhood was made for Abbie, she adored her kids and everyone around her knew that. Pictures and mementos of the children filled the house and nothing but love poured out. Early on in Dylan and Sophie’s life, Abbie began baking with them, which quickly became a hobby they enjoyed. Some recipes even made it to social media! One of everyone’s favorite recipe was her chocolate pecan pie. Abbie also loved spending quality with the kids by watching their favorite tv shows. She loved her children more than anything was often going above and beyond for them.
As a family, they were avid OU fans and attended many games and school events together. You could find them tailgating with friends before every home game right before going to cheer on the Sooners to victory! Family time meant everything to her, and she loved sharing stories while they were together.
Abbie loved traveling, from relaxing on the beach in the Caribbean and Mexico to camping in Pitkin, CO, she was so adventurous. You could find Abbie always dancing and singing to everything Dylan & Sophie played and she truly loved all genres of music. And if you could describe a perfect day for Abbie, it would be Thanksgiving Eve when all the girls got together to cook Thanksgiving dinner and share pumpkin spice martinis. Thanksgiving was always Abbie’s favorite because it always meant a good family gathering. She was always in the holiday spirit and depending on the season, enjoyed decorating as she had a glass of red or white wine in the evening.
Always ready to have a good time and try something new, Abbie was definitely the life of the party. She was a deeply loved mother, daughter, and friend; a true matriarch. To know her would be to be in the presence of kindness, perfection, compassion, selflessness, calmness, and true strength. Her mindset that love of family and friends is the glue that holds everyone together will be carried throughout all the lives she’s touched.
Abbie is survived by her parents, Danny and Diana Arnold; husband, Toney Amend; children Dylan and Sophie Amend; brother-in-law, Brian Amend and wife, Johanna; and father-in-law, Jerry Amend. She also leaves behind six nieces, nine nephews, and a host of friends that will forever cherish her memory.
