Wayne L. Moquin

Funeral services with military honors for Wayne L. Moquin, age 69 of the River Road East in Morristown, NY will be held on Friday (Aug 2, 2013) at 11:00am at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home with Deacon Patrick Lyons officiating. His place of rest will be at Foxwood Memorial Park.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 2-4 & 6-8 at the funeral home. Mr. Moquin passed away at his home Saturday evening (Jul 27th) surrounded by his loving family.

He is surviving by his wife Sherrie; a son Wayne Moquin & his wife Leanna of Morristown; a daughter Colleen Evans & her companion Michael Bice of Lisbon; four grandchildren Ethyn & Gavin Moquin of Morristown and Adam & Abigail Evans of Lisbon; five brothers Bruce Moquin of Indiana, Richard Moquin & his wife Anita of Hammond, Terry Moquin & his wife Karen of Morristown, Timothy Moquin & his wife Donna of Hammond, Alan Nicholson & his wife Melanie of California; four sisters Joan Soper of Brier Hill, Gail Moquin of Ogdensburg, Debra Moquin of Ogdensburg, Tina Leafe & her husband Daniel of Massena and several nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts & cousins. A sister Cynthia Harvey predeceased him.

Wayne was born on August 14, 1943 in Potsdam, NY a son of Leonard & Leona Mary (Burns) Moquin. He attended Hammond Central School and then served in the United States Navy in 1962. He then married Sherrie Gilmer on May 14, 1977 in Las Vegas, NV at the Chapel of the Roses.

His career began at the McCullock Corporation in Los Angeles, CA from 1963-1968 as an expeditor. Then 1968-1971 he worked for the Northrup Corporation in Hawthorne, CA also as an expeditor manufacturing control analyst. In 1971-1978 he then worked for the Lennox School District in Lennox, CA as their Head of Maintenance. In 1977 he attended the CTA’s Truck Driving School and became an owner/operator from 1978-1979, and then from 1979 – 1986 he operated his own maintenance business in Hawthorne, CA. The couple then moved to the North Country where they co-owned and operated the Windmill Motor Inn in Morristown, from 1986-1995. In 1996, Wayne then went to work for the Department of Transportation in Ogdensburg where he worked until 2010.

He was a past member of the St. Lawrence County Republican Committee. A member of the Seaway Cruisers Classic Car Club, a member of the St. Lawrence Power & Equipment Museum and a member of the Brier Hill Fire Department. He enjoyed collecting antiques, his 1946 Farmall H Tractor, his 1933 Chevy Master Eagle, attending auctions, playing cards and visiting with family and friends.

Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers can be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley, the Brier Hill Fire Department or the Morristown Fire Department.
