Funeral services for Travis M. (Gilbert) Carpenter, age 18 of County Route 16, Canton will be held on Tuesday (July 15, 2014) at 11:00am at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home with Pastor Rusty Bissell officiating. Burial will follow the service at the Hermon Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held on Monday from 2-4 & 6-8pm at the funeral home. Travis passed away at his home on Friday July 11, 2014 surrounded by his loving family and friends after a long courageous battle with cancer.
Surviving are his parents Nancy Carpenter & her husband Nelson of Canton and Marc Gilbert & his wife Celeste of Ogdensburg; a brother Dylan Barton of Dekalb; two sisters Krista Crobar & her husband Matt of Rensselaer Falls and Tiffany Barton & her companion Ricky Devito of Heuvelton; ½ brother Brandon Johnson of Ogdensburg; ½ sister Nicole Gilbert of Ogdensburg; maternal grandmother Shirley Mehaffy of Heuvelton; paternal grandparents June Gilbert of Ogdensburg, Nelson & Fama Carpenter of Hermon and Rose & Donnie Fifield of Hermon; nieces Gracie & Claire Crobar and Rylie Bressett; nephews Logan & Liam Devito; special friend Alyssa Anson of Dekalb; prom date Kristi Pike of Heuvelton along with many aunts, uncles & cousins.
His grandfather’s Robert Mehaffy and George Gilbert along with an uncle Mack Fuller predeceased him.
Travis was born on May 31, 1996 in Ogdensburg, a son of Nelson & Nancy (Mehaffy) Carpenter and Marc Gilbert. He was a student at Heuvelton Central High School and a member of the Buffalo Time Travelers Car Club. Travis was diagnosed with pinealblastoma in 2007, and fought long and hard for the past 7 years. Even through the invasive stem cell transplant, he always wore a smile, and not once ever complained. Travis made a great impression on everyone that entered his life, and was blessed to be granted his 3 important wishes. He enjoyed driving his big red truck, snowmobiling, playing pool, baseball, soccer, hockey, play station games, watching NASCAR & Stiles Family Racing, and going to Doug’s for chicken wings on Wednesday night. He also was an avid Buffalo Sabers and New England Patriot fan.
