Funeral services for Timothy D. Dana, age 64 of 410 Mansion Avenue in Ogdensburg will be held on Friday (March 16, 2012) at 11:00am with full military honors at the Grace Covenant Church, Route 37, Ogdensburg, NY with Rev. Scott Daby officiating. Burial will be in the spring at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 4:00 – 8:00pm at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home. Mr. Dana died Saturday (March 10, 2012) unexpectedly at his home.
Surviving are his brother Bruce Dana of River Rd Morristown & Tupper Lake, NY; a sister Susan Myers & her husband David of Sanford, NC; nephews Matthew Dana of Tupper Lake, Jeremy Carpenter & his wife Debbie of Depeyster; great-nephews Dylan & Drew Carpenter; great-niece Brooke Carpenter; step-son Andrew Shirley of California, MD; step-daughter Sharon Shirley of Brandford, CT; former wife and friend Virginia Shirley of Ogdensburg. A step-son Doug Shirley predeceased him.
Tim was born on August 1, 1947 in Ogdensburg, NY, a son of the late David L. & Helen E. (Cummiskey) Dana. He graduated from St. Mary’s Academy 1965 and continued his education at Canton ATC where he obtained an associates degree in Business Administration in May of 1967. He entered the US Marine Corp on November 15, 1967 during Vietnam, and obtained the National Defense Service Metal, Vietnam Campaign Medal & the Vietnam Service Metal while enlisted. He was honorably discharge on May 20, 1969 after being injured in combat. He then became employed at the Harrisburg Dress Factory where he worked as a laborer for a few years, and then relocated to the North Country to become employed at the Nature Storehouse Food Store in Canton, where he worked as the store manager.
Tim was a Life Member and Chaplin of the Am vets Post 19, a member of the Madrid Marine Corp League and a Life Member and former Commander in 2008 of the DAV Grant C. Madill Chapter 69 in Ogdensburg. In 2011 he retired from DAV Commander, and became membership chairman and transportation coordinator assistant, serving all those in need.
He enjoyed hiking, camping, boating, kayaking, water skiing, listening to music on North Country Public Radio and enjoyed attending many of their live local music productions.
