She was predeceased in 1995 by her father, Eugene (“Tommy”) Kozaryn of Windsor, CT.
Sandy was born on October 29, 1950, daughter of Eugene T. and Hildegard (Berger) Kozaryn in Hartford, CT. She graduated from Windsor High School (CT) and attended Strayer College in Alexandria, VA. She married George Blatchley in 1971. The couple moved to the Macomb, NY in January 1980 to purchase and operate a dairy farm. The marriage ended in divorce. She graduated second in her class (High Honors and Phi Beta Kappa) from SUNY Canton College in 1987, earning an AAS degree in Mortuary Science, and thereafter was offered a scholarship to Clarkson University for her academic excellence. A newly licensed New York Funeral Director, she became employed at the Fox Funeral Homes, Ogdensburg, Heuvelton, Lisbon, and Hammond, NY. That is where she met Richard Fox and several years later the couple married on August 18, 1992 at the First Presbyterian Church, Ogdensburg, NY, before Rev. Thomas Patterson. The couple worked together as funeral directors until semi-retiring in 1999, and fully retiring in 2013. In July 2008, their industry’s leading international trade publication (ICCFA Magazine) profiled Sandy and Richard in the lead article and magazine cover, overviewing their mausoleum, Foxwood Memorial Park. They enjoyed traveling, having followed their son, Todd, on his work assignments in London, England and Frankfurt, Germany. They also traveled extensively to many state-side cities, and cruised to many ports in the Caribbean and Europe.
Sandy was a former member of the First Presbyterian Church, the Ogdensburg Historical Society, and the Canton College Mortuary Science Advisory Board. While raising her children she was active in their class activities and was a wonderful mother to not only her boys, but to their friends as well. She was lovingly called “Mrs. B.” She took great pride and received great pleasure working in the flower gardens at Foxwood Memorial Park. The beauty of the building and property are credited to her efforts. Sandy’s greatest love and joy, however, were and forever will be her sons, Todd, Tim and Tom, her current and long-awaited grandchildren, her mother, Hildegard, her sisters, Rosie and Heidi, and her devoted husband, Richard.
Sandy’s infectious smile is the perfect reflection of the kind, open-hearted woman that she embodied. She could light up a room with her always present smile and bubbly energy. She affectionately warmed the hearts of many through her charm and gregarious nature. Sandy’s zest for life and her caring, giving nature will live on in the many friends and family who carry on her lasting legacy. She will be forever missed and loved.
