Rita F. Crawford

Funeral services for Rita F. Crawford, age 90 of Ogdensburg and formerly of Union Street in Heuvelton, will be held at 2:00pm on Monday (May 1, 2017) at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home with Lieutenants Shaun & Stacy McNeil of the Salvation Army officiating. Entombment will follow at Foxwood Memorial Park.

Calling hours will be held also on Monday from 12:00noon until the time of the service at the funeral home. Mrs. Crawford passed away on Friday April 28, 2017 at the Riverledge Healthcare Facility with her family by her side.

Surviving are her children David Yost and Lorraine Yost both of Ogdensburg; grandchildren Lisa & Kenny Chase of Ogdensburg, Stephen Bogart of Watertown, Jamie, Angie & Chad Yost of Rochester; great-grandchildren Kaitlin, Erica, Trista & Graci Chase and Sydney & William Bogart.

She was predeceased by her husband Lyle in 1999; a brother Gerald Barnes in 1976 and a sister Roberta Barnes in 2013.

Rita was born on November 28, 1926 in Syracuse NY, a daughter of the late Carroll & Goldie (Brown) Barnes. She attended Ogdensburg Schools, and later married Lyle F. Crawford on July 14, 1973 at the Heuvelton Presbyterian Church.

Rita worked as a nurse’s aide at A. Barton Hepburn Hospital for a period before becoming a switch board operator until 1984 when she retired. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Stars and enjoyed camping, watching TV, collecting bells and ceramic mice, being on the river, cookouts, gardening, her pet dogs and she enjoyed her children, grandchildren & great-grandchildren.
