Funeral services for Rose “Bernie” Thomas, age 86 of Ogdensburg will be held on Tuesday (Oct 22, 2013) at 4:00pm at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home with Deacon Francis Bateman officiating. Her place of rest will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Ogdensburg.
Calling hours will also be held on Tuesday from 2:00-4:00pm at the Funeral Home. Mrs. Thomas passed away at St. Joseph’s Nursing Home on Thursday (Oct 17, 2013).
Surviving are three sons Michael Thomas & his wife Christine, David Thomas & his wife Diane and Curtis Thomas all of Ogdensburg; five grandchildren Linda Thomas-Pellerin, Amy Jamison, Curt Thomas Jr., all of Ogdensburg; Toni Thomas of Rochester, Samantha Thomas-McGuire of IL; nine great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews & cousins.
She was predeceased by three sisters Mae Bean, Doris Dominie & Katherine Ritter along with two brothers Harold & Lawrence Rheaume.
Bernie was born on April 29, 1927 in Ogdensburg NY, a daughter of the late Frank & Florida (LaRose) Rheaume. She attended Ogdensburg Free Academy for her education and married Louis F. Thomas on December 10, 1949 at St. Mary’s Cathedral with Rev. Michael Reilly officiating. The couple’s marriage later ended in divorce.
During her career she was employed as a waitress at Ace & Ann’s for several years, and then became employed at the St. Lawrence Psychiatric Center where she worked in the foodservice and laundry departments until her retirement in 1989.
She was a former volunteer at the K of C and member of the Republican Party. She enjoyed socializing, playing quick draw, cooking, crossword puzzles and traveling. Memorial contributions can be made to the St. Joseph’s Foundation.
