Funeral Services for Peggy Ann Barr, age 69 of 522 Franklin St. Ogdensburg, NY will be held on Thursday, April 23 at 11:00 am at the Fox and Murray Funeral Home. Entombment will follow the service at Foxwood Memorial Park.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, April 22 from 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm and again on Thursday from 10:00 am until the time of the service. Mrs. Barr passed away at St. Joseph’s Nursing Home on Friday April 17, 2015 surrounded by her loving family.
Surviving is her husband of 50 years, Addison J. Barr; a daughter Laurie Crowley of Ogdensburg; sons David (Laurie) Barr of New Hartford NY, Andrew (Josie) Barr of Lisbon NY and Robert (Allison) Barr of Bristol RI; two brothers Carlton (Barbara) LaRose and Robert LaRose of Ogdensburg; one sister Shelia Herbison of Kitchener Ontario, three grandsons Michael Crowley, Austin Barr and Jack Barr; two granddaughters Addy Barr and Adriana Barr; two step granddaughters Amber Fetterly and Makaela Gray; great grandson JP Fetterly and many nieces and nephews. Peggy was predeceased by two brothers Gerald and Richard LaRose and a sister Shirley Knabb.
Peggy was born on May 30, 1945 to the late Katherine Lovely and Edgar LaRose. She graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy in 1963 and married Addison “AJ” Barr in May of 1964 at Notre Dame Church in Ogdensburg. She worked at the Famous Jocks Restaurant while still in school, and later she was employed at J.J. Newberry Store. In In 1972 Peggy began her longtime employment with A. Barton Hepburn Hospital where she worked for 34 years. She retired in 2007.
She was an active and devoted Minor Hockey Parent traveling to games in New York and Canada throughout her childrens high school years. Peggy also traveled with the OFA Marching Band to various locations to support her children’s involvement. She was also a longtime member of the Ogdensburg Women’s Bowling League and a Notre Dame Parishioner. She enjoyed playing bingo, camping with family, and meeting new friends at all her activities.
Peggy was stricken with lung cancer in November 2010 where she was hospitalized at St. Luke’s Hospital in Utica. She received her treatment at Canton-Potsdam Hospital until 2014. She was admitted to St. Joseph’s Nursing Home February 28, 2014 where she received wonderful care during her declining health.
