Funeral services for Margaret M. Smith, age 95 of Ogdensburg will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday (Aug 4, 2018) at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home with Deacon Mark Lalonde officiating. Her place of rest will be at Foxwood Memorial Park.
Calling hours will be held also on Saturday (Aug 4th) prior to the funeral from 12:00pm to 2:00pm at the Funeral Home. Mrs. Smith passed away on Saturday (July 21, 2018).
Surviving are two daughters Christine Slate of New Hampshire and Elizabeth “Betty” Bouyer & her husband Gene of Ogdensburg; grandchildren Matthew Montroy of FL, Daniel Slate of NH, Justin Slate of CA and Rodney “Gene” Bouyer of Tupper Lake; great-grandchildren Laura & Lily Slate and Hudson Bouyer; three brothers Cyril & Ann Doris of Edmonton, Alberta, Lawrence & Rachel Doris of Quebec and Gerald & Maureen Doris of Ottawa; and two sisters Irene Reny of Ottawa and Evelyn Brule’ of Ottawa.
She was predeceased by her husband Lloyd Smith and four sisters Dorothy St. Jacques, Patsy Doris, Lillian Snider and Mary Doris.
Margaret was born on August 18, 1922 in Ottawa Ontario, a daughter of the late Cyril & Rhea (Regimbald) Doris. She graduated from High School and continued her education at the Ottawa Business School. She later married Lloyd A. Smith on July 13, 1944 at St. Bridgett’s Church in Ottawa. Soon after her marriage, she and her husband moved to Ogdensburg, and she began her career at the Prudential Life Insurance Company where she worked as a secretary from 1967 – 1973. She then became employed at the Unemployment office in Ogdensburg from 1974 – 1982, and also worked a short time at the Remington Art Museum until she retired.
Margaret was a member of St. Mary’s Cathedral Parish, Ogdensburg Women’s bowling league, American Legion Auxiliary and the Civil Service Defense. She enjoyed playing cards, dancing and visiting with her grandchildren.
