Calling hours will be held on Friday from 3:00-7:00pm at the Funeral Home. Mr. Ramsey passed away unexpectedly on Monday (Oct 10, 2016) at Claxton Hepburn Medical Center after being stricken at home.
Surviving is his wife Byrdie; a son Ben Ramsey & his companion Amanda Fleegle of Ogdensburg; a daughter Chera Davison & her husband Jason of Lisbon; a brother Kirk Ramsey of Ogdensburg; two sisters Paula Davies & her companion Stan Breen of Ogdensburg and Carol Clifton & her husband David of Sarnia Ontario; six grandchildren Ariana Ramsey, Ivey, Cooper, Kinslee, Mazelyn & Kelten Davison along with many nieces, nephews & cousins. His brother Robert Ramsey predeceased him.
Joe was born on April 16, 1948 in Ogdensburg NY, a son of the late Bert & Cecile (Delair) Ramsey. He graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy and entered the US Marine Corp in 1968 until 1974. After receiving his honorable discharge, he continued his education at Canton ATC and later at Potsdam State where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Sociology.
He later married Byrdie Refici on November 5, 1990 in Port Ewen NY, and was a former member of the AmVets in Ogdensburg. During his career he worked 20+ years for the Department of Labor and enjoyed entertaining others with his music, playing in many area bands throughout his life. He was also a longtime participant with Showtime, and has entertained the dining guests at Granview for the past 15 years. Joe loved to spend time with his children and grandchildren, and will always be remembered as full of love with a positive attitude, and as a very kind man!
