A Memorial Mass for John F. Sutter, age 84 of Ogdensburg and formerly of Hendersonville, NC will be held at 1:00pm on Thursday August 2nd at St. Joseph’s Home chapel with Rev. Joseph Morgan officiating. Entombment will follow at Foxwood Memorial Park.
There will be no calling hours. Mr. Sutter passed away on Tuesday July 31, 2018 at the St. Joseph’s Home in Ogdensburg. Arrangements are with the Fox & Murray Funeral Home.
Survivors include his wife Joyce Gadoua Sutter, a son Brian Sutter of Buffalo; a daughter Angela Mary Sutter-Grady from Millrift, PA; four step-children Steven Lemieux of Ogdensburg, Mark Lemieux of Heuvelton, Jacqueline Love of Ogdensburg and Jeannine Kline of Buford, SC; 7 grandchildren; 7 step-grandchildren; 4-step-great-grandchildren; a brother Joseph Sutter of Massena; and a sister Elizabeth (Beth) Sutter, a nun from Rochester. He was predeceased by his sister Mary Alice Sutter-Ryan in 1998.
He was the son of the late Francis and Mary (Duffy) Sutter of Norwood. He graduated from Norwood-Norfolk Central School in 1952 and SUNY Oswego College in 1956 with a B.S degree in Industrial Arts. Additional Education included a M.S. degree in administration from SUNY Albany plus graduate work at SUNY Potsdam. He also served 8 years in the US Navy Reserves.
John’s employment included 16 years as an Industrial Arts Teacher and 17 years as Administrator of Vocational-Technical Education for St. Lawrence Lewis BOCES. He retired from employment in 1989 and relocated to Weaverville NC where he lived for 5 years. Other previous residences included Waddington NY, Ogdensburg NY, Zolfo Springs, FL and Punta Gorda, FL.
During his life, he was devoted to his Roman Catholic religion, the care of his rescue dog Schnauzers and his hobbies of gardening and carpentry work. He and his wife Joyce enjoyed travel and the many trips they made across the United States in addition to freighter travel to and from Australia and New Zealand.
