Joan M. Huntley

Joan M. Huntley, age 77, of Ogdensburg, NY, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 10, 2024, at the Massena Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 19, 2024 at Fox & Murray Funeral Home from 3:00 PM- 6:00 PM. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Fox & Murray Funeral Home.

Joan was born on October 26, 1947, in Ogdensburg, NY, to the late Hugh T. and Audrie L. (Harper) Huntley. She attended Ogdensburg Free Academy, graduating with the Class of 1966. After high school, Joan proudly served in the United States Army from 1967 to 1970, working as a Clerical Typing and Procedures Specialist and dedicating herself to her country. Following her service, she continued to help others through her work at the St. Lawrence Psychiatric Center in Ogdensburg, NY, and later at the Hutchings Psychiatric Center in Syracuse, NY.

In her free time she enjoyed hearing from and catching up with family and friends especially when they unexpectedly stopped by to see her, she also loved time with her grandchildren and helped to raise them. She loved teaching them new things as she had a lifelong love of learning expressed through her enjoyment of nature and science documentaries and reading fact and science books, along with her bible. She enjoyed watching PBS documentaries, Hallmark movies, many crime drama shows, and Michael Landon TV shows.

Joan is survived by her son, Bernard W. Huntley of Ogdensburg; her brothers, John C. Huntley of Ogdensburg and Robert E. Huntley of Massena; a sister in law, Cindy Huntley of Ogdensburg; grandsons Dustin J. Brashaw and Adam W. Huntley of Ogdensburg, granddaughter Andrea Eris I. Miller of Canton, her nieces and nephews, Audrie L. Miller and her fiancé Kristopher K. Kernehan of Canton, Christopher M. Miller of Canton, Tammy L. Sparks of Phenix City, Alabama, James “Jimmy” E. Huntley of Spokane, Washington, Susan M. Huntley of Ogdensburg, Shari A. Montroy of Potsdam, and Robert E. Huntley Jr. of Ogdensburg; an Aunt Audrey Harper of Ogdensburg, an Uncle Bob Harper of Eureka, California; and many great nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her sister Donna J. Miller; her brothers, Edward J. and Hugh “Tom” Huntley Jr; and a nephew, Tommy Huntley III.
