Jill was born in Canton, NY, to the late Irving and Georgina (Farnsworth) Joyce. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in physical education from SUNY Brockport and later worked as a physical education teacher at Ogdensburg Free Academy and a health teacher at Parishville Hopkinton Central School, and later Potsdam Central School District. On August 14, 1965, Jill married her beloved husband, Vincent Terrance Egan, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Canton, NY.
Known for her vibrant spirit, Jill was the life of every gathering, a skilled entertainer, and an amazing cook. She spent her quiet time reading. She and Vince traveled around the country in their RV, spending many happy winters in South Padre Island, Texas. Although she loved to travel, Jill was happiest when home on the St. Lawrence River, enjoying her beautiful view of the water and watching the ships as they passed through the St. Lawrence Seaway. Jill passed her love of the St. Lawrence on to her children and grandchildren who found their many visits to the St. Lawrence the highlight of their summers. Jill loved her time with the grandchildren, making each visit special. Her family eagerly awaited her weekly texts, filled with warmth and love.
Jill always stated that she won the husband lottery with Vince who was the love of her life. He was her anchor, and she was his skipper. They hit many waves and weathered storms together for 59 years. It’s fitting to think that they’ve found their eternal safe harbor together, sitting in their chairs while enjoying the ships as they pass by on the river.
Mrs. Egan is survived by her son, Vincent “Terry” Egan Jr. and his wife Anne Marie of Fairport, NY; her daughters, Joyce Egan of Brighton, NY and Jeannie Levesque of Mount Pleasant, SC; her brother, Michael Joyce and his wife Deborah of Columbia, SC; her grandchildren, Brian Terrance Egan of Atlanta, GA, Elizabeth Anne Egan of Buffalo, NY, Katya Maria Gaudieri of Smithtown, NY, Sara Joyce Gaudieri of Nashville, TN, Cash Kennedy Levesque of Mount Pleasant, SC and Brody Vincent Levesque of Mount Pleasant, SC; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
