Helen E. Liberati

She was born in Heuvelton, New York in February of 1927 to the late Eugene & Dorothy (Walker) Richards. Helen graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy, where she had aspired to be a nurse. Helen met the love of her life, Nicholas Liberati and they later married on November 28, 1959 and moved to Syracuse, NY to raise their family. They were married for 64 wonderful years.

Helen’s joy in life was spending time with her family and friends, she had a special place in her heart for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Helen enjoyed embroidering, sewing, thrift store shopping and working in her flower garden. When she wasn’t crafting, she was enjoying a good book or watching Syracuse Basketball. Helen was a member of St. Agnes Church in Brewerton, NY where she served on the Alter & Rosery Society and taught religious education classes for over 35 years. She always had a smile and quick wit about her.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband Nicholas Liberati and her grandson Michael R. Mumley, and is survived by her son Thomas (Alicia) Trathen of Liverpool, NY, and daughters Helen (Gary) Hurd of Pigeon Forge, TN, and Marie Liberati-Rodgers of Clearwater, FL. Granddaughters Brandy (Michael) Wood of Sevierville, TN, Nichole (Kevin) McLoone of Dunedin, FL, and Andrea (Joe) Powers of Clearwater FL. Great Grandchildren Emileigh, Ethan Wood, and Blakely McLoone. Brother Stewart Richards of Ogdensburg, NY along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday December 14, 2023 from 11:00 am to 12:30 PM at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home; 528 Franklin Street, Ogdensburg, NY. With a mass of Christian Burial to follow at 1pm at St. Raphael’s Church, 5 Clinton St, Heuvelton, NY. With Reverend Kevin O’Brian officiating, Helen will be laid to rest at Hillcrest Cemetery following the service.
