Funeral services for Harriet “Jean” Tennant, age 84 of Ogdensburg will be held on Monday (Sept 30, 2024) at 12:00pm at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Laurena Will officiating. Entombment will follow at the Oswegatchie Mausoleum.
Calling hours will also be held on Monday from 9:00am to 11:30am at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home. Mrs. Tennant passed away on Sunday (Sept 22, 2024) at Claxton Hepburn Medical Center surrounded by her loving family.
Surviving are her children Kurt (Sylvia) Tennant of Ogdensburg and Lora Tennant of Seattle, WA; a sister Kay Hughes of Switzerland; grandchildren Ellyssa (Joel) Smithers, Linsay (Geoffrey) Bergeron, Jonathan (Karina) Tennant, and William (Natalie) Tennant; great-grandchildren Emery and Eila Smithers, Violette, Henri, and Luc Bergeron and Vivienne Tennant all of Oswego, NY; nieces Christina Tennant of Palo Cedro, CA and Meghan Arsenault of LaSalle, Quebec; nephew Ryan Foley of Henderson, NV.
Jean was predeceased by her husband John in 2012; an infant daughter Keri Tennant; two brothers John & Herbert Hughes; and a sister Nina Hughes.
Jean was born on July 22, 1940, in Toronto Ontario, the daughter of Henry & Anne (Lyttle) Hughes. She graduated from Verdun High School in Quebec and went to work as a secretary where she later met and married John L. Tennant on August 21, 1964, at the First Presbyterian Church in Montreal.
Jean and her family moved to Ogdensburg in 1968. After she graduated from Mater Dei College, Jean worked as an office manager at Dillingham, Jones & Cecil. In 1974 she then worked for Sir-Tech Software until 1984 and later became a licensed real estate broker with Century 21. She retired in 1999.
Jean was active in the local bridge club, a member of the 1st Presbyterian Church and choir of Ogdensburg for over 40 years and board member of the United Helpers Society. She loved playing bridge with her friends and singing in the church choir. She was an avid sports fan and enjoyed walking regularly, baking and cooking.
