Funeral services for Frank R. Martin, age 63 of County Route 10, Lisbon will be held on Saturday (Dec 10, 2011) at 11:00am at the Lisbon Central School Auditorium with Rev. Walter Smith officiating. Burial will follow the service at White Church Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held on Friday 2-4 & 6-8pm at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home. Mr. Martin died Monday (Dec 5, 2011) at Samaritan Medical Center following a motor vehicle accident as a result of a heart attack.
Surviving is his wife Judy; two sons Justin Martin & his wife Angela, Blake Martin & his companion Holly Young; a sister Mary Clark; two grandchildren Hunter & Tanner Martin all of Lisbon along with several nieces, nephews & cousins.
A sister Jane Farley predeceased him.
Frank was born on December 12, 1947 in Lisbon, NY a son of the late J. Homer & Doreen (Rood) Martin. He graduated from Lisbon Central School and continued his education at the College for Agriculture in Kemptville, Ontario in 1966. In 1968 he enlisted in the US Army until 1969 when he was honorably discharged. Frank then purchased the Everett Van Hyning grocery store in 1970 and renamed it to Martin Feed & Farm, which later evolved from selling groceries, to selling feed and farm supplies in 1985. On October 4, 1975 he married Judith H. Hayes at the Lisbon Presbyterian Church with Rev. Milton Skiff officiating the couples’ marriage.
He served local farmers for many years and volunteered his time for youth recreation teams. He supported and donated to the St. Lawrence Valley Horsemen Association, Milk Co-Op, area county fairs and the Lisbon Businessman’s Scholarship Fund at graduation. The dedication to his community was seen in his involvement as a Past Fire Chief and volunteer for the Lisbon Fire & Rescue Department, a State Fire Instructor and County Fire Advisory Board Member for 15 years. He was also a Past Commander and member of the Lisbon American Legion, FFA and 4-H.
He enjoyed driving his 1948 antique truck in local parades, making local deliveries in his Peterbilt delivery truck, conversing with his customers and spending time with his family.
