A Funeral Mass for Eleanor Y. Murray, age 87 of Ogdensburg will be held on Tuesday (May 5, 2015) at 11:00am at Notre Dame Church with Rev. Steven Murray her son and Rev. F. James Shurtleff concelebrating. Burial will follow the service at Notre Dame Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held on Monday from 4:00-7:00pm at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home. Mrs. Murray passed away early Saturday morning (May 2, 2015) at the Riverledge Healthcare Facility with her granddaughters by her side.
Surviving is her husband of 66 years Donald F. Murray; three sons Rev. Steven Murray of Watertown, Frank Murray & his beloved Gretchen McHugh of Ogdensburg, David Murray & his wife Patti of Ogdensburg; a daughter Ann Johnson & her husband CJ also of Ogdensburg; grandchildren Stacy Johnson & her fiancee’ Chad Stemmler of Rochester, Timothy Amo of Ogdensburg, Kaylan Murray & her fiancee’ Angel Shannon of Rutland, VT, Brenden & Brogan Murray also of Rutland, VT, Morgan Murray & Kelli Barr of Ogdensburg; great-grandchildren Indigo Collier, Damon & Onnalise Shannon and Fenway Amo; a special nephew David Young & his wife Sally of Dillsburg, PA and many nieces, nephews & cousins.
She was predeceased by a son Thomas P. Murray; her parents Leo & Yvonne LaRock and three sisters Irene Henry, Doris (Young) Trenn and Ruth Rogers and a daughter-in-law Sue Ellen (Hennigan) Murray.
Eleanor was born on September 4, 1927 in Ogdensburg NY, a daughter of Leo & Yvonne (Bouchard) LaRock. She graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy in 1944 and continued her education at the A. Barton Hospital School of Nursing where she obtained her registered nursing degree in 1947. She later married Donald F. Murray on September 21, 1948 at Notre Dame Church with Msgr. A.D. Charbonneau officiating the couple’s marriage.
During her career she worked as a registered nurse at the A. Barton Hepburn Hospital for several years as a charge nurse, and later went to work for Morrison & Knudsen until starting her family. Eleanor was a member of the Daughter of Charity St. Vincent DePaul and Notre Dame Parish. She enjoyed spending summers at her camp on Pleasant Lake, volunteering at St. Vincent DePaul, gardening, sewing, reading, baking, taking long walks and spending time with her family.
