Funeral services for Eleanor P. Hollister, age 83 of Hammond will be held on Saturday (May 9, 2015) at 11:00am at the Hammond Presbyterian Church with Rev. Norma Murphy officiating. Burial will follow the service at Ingham Cemetery in Brier Hill.
Calling hours will be held also on Saturday from 9:30am until the time of the service at the church. Mrs. Hollister passed away on Tuesday evening (May 5, 2015) at the Riverledge Healthcare Facility surrounded by her family.
Surviving is her son, Lon Hollister & his wife Terri of Hammond; Lana Storie & her husband Wayne of Chippewa Bay; two sisters Karlyn Ellard & Linda Ramelb both of Florida; two grandchildren, Kurt & Gina Rogers of Endicott, NY and Kelly & Chris Charleson of Hopkinton; great-granddaughter Grace Charleson, along with many nieces, nephews & cousins.
Her husband Clement “Milo” Hollister, an infant daughter Sue Carol Hollister, and an infant sister Alta Paddock predeceased her.
Eleanor was born on December 18, 1931 in Hammond NY, a daughter of Lewis W. & Grace (Ormiston) Paddock. She graduated from Hammond Central School and continued her education at Canton ATI, earning a degree in Home Economics. She married Clement “Milo” Hollister on February 4, 1950. They owned and operated a large dairy farm in Hammond from May 1950 to May 1987.
During her lifetime, Eleanor was greatly involved in her community. She was a member of the Calaboga Willing Workers and a member and past Matron of the Hammond Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a Cub Scout leader, and active in helping the Hammond All Stars and Hammond Pixies 4-H Clubs. For numerous years she was office manager for the St. Lawrence County Farm Bureau, a Hammond Grange member and was a member of the Board of the Hammond Fair Association for several years. Eleanor was on the Board of Directors for the Hammond Museum, a board member of Millsite Manor, and was on the United Helpers Resident Board for the Adult Home and the United Helpers Planning Committee.
Music was a huge part of her life. For the many years of its existence she was a member of the “Kitchen Band” which performed at events all around the North Country. For over 50 years she was a member of the Hammond Presbyterian Church choir and sang and played at many events for the Church.
As a member of the Church, she taught Church School, was Elder for 9 years, President of the Hammond United Presbyterian Women, and served as a Deacon. She held the offices of Treasurer, Vice President, and President for the Northern NY United Presbyterian Women. She greatly enjoyed doing mission projects, dinners, and other activities at her Church.
Eleanor (Elly) had a great joy and love for life itself, her family, her many friends, and her Church.
