

A Memorial service for Edwin C. Hadlock, age 84 of Hammond will be held on Saturday (June 28, 2014) at 11:00 am at the Hammond Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. Richard Will officiating. A Grange Memorial Service will be held at 10: 45 a.m., prior to the service. Burial will be held privately with his family at the Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Hammond.
Calling hours will be held also on Saturday from 10:00 am until the time of the service at the church. Mr. Hadlock passed away on Monday (June 23, 2014) at Claxton Hepburn Medical Center surrounded by his family.
Surviving are his wife, Joan; a son E. Douglas Hadlock of Ogdensburg; two daughters Deborah Richards & her husband Darren of Colton and Jennifer Gardner & her husband Nicholas of Rossie; grandchildren Lindsey Hadlock; Sage, Cole, Callie & Maura Richards; Kennon, Nolan, Jensen & Vivian Gardner; a brother William Hadlock & his wife Donna of Hammond; a sister Janet Stewart & her husband Robert of Ballston Spa along with many nieces and nephews.
Two brothers George & John Hadlock predeceased him.
Ed was born on April 7, 1930 in Hammond NY, a son of the late Edwin B. & Helen Taylor Hadlock. He graduated from Hammond High School and continued his education at Cornell University. He married Joan V. Hero on Sept 11, 1965 in Westborough, MA.
Following high school, Ed returned to the family farm for a few years until he participated in a farm exchange program, traveling to Colombia, South America. He then returned to the farm until he accepted a position as Coordinator for a Guatemala Grange/Peace Corps program in Washington, D.C. He later joined the staff of Congressman Robert McEwen as Legislative Assistant and then rejoined the staff of National Grange as National Youth Director. Ed then was appointed Administrative Assistant to the National Grange Master. In 1971, Ed and his family returned to Hammond to join the family farm.
Ed held many positions with the County, State and National Grange. He was a member of the board of the
St. Lawrence County Soil & Water Conservation District, president of the Pleasant Valley Cemetery Association, a Director of the Citizens National Bank of Hammond, President of the Hammond Historical Association and former Deacon & Elder of the Hammond Presbyterian Church. He was active in his church, the Hammond Fair and other community activities. He enjoyed farming, traveling, gardening, lawn mowing and spending time with his family.
