A Memorial Service for Edward R. Coombs, age 87 of Ogdensburg will be held on Thursday (May 6, 2021) at 2:00pm at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home with Pastor Dan Welsh officiating. Burial will be at Brookside Cemetery in Waddington. Mr. Coombs passed away at Claxton Hepburn Medical Center on Thursday (April 29, 2021).
Surviving is his wife Marilyn; sons Scott Coombs of Utica & Frank Samarco of Ogdensburg; a daughter April Coombs of Ogdensburg; daughter in law Christine Coombs of Syracuse; grandchildren Jessica & Ben Botelho; Joshua & Jeremy Coombs; Nicole, Trevor, Jimmy & Cassidy Samarco; Arianna Welsh; EJ & Dominick Coombs; Caleb, Shantel & Donti Icoff; great grandchildren Kayden, Karter, Hudson Coombs; Cole, Collins, Colby & Cullen Lafleur & Liam Samarco; a sister Barbara Larson of CT; sister-in-law Patty Coombs of Herkimer along with many nieces, nephews & cousins.
Ed was predeceased by sons Robert Coombs, James Samarco & Edward Coombs; a daughter Candace Coombs and a brother Raymond Coombs.
He was born on August 5, 1933 in Brooklyn NY, a son of the late Edward H. & Helen (Roome) Coombs. He graduated High School in Hamdon, CT where he was a football star, and later married Marilyn (Gerace) Samarco on Sept 15, 1973.
Ed worked as a self-employed flooring installer for many years and also worked for Enjems Flooring. Ed has a strong Christian Faith and attended numerous Bible Study Conventions. He was an active member of the Full Gospel Men’s Fellowship, Prison Fellowship, Albany Episcopal Cursillo Team, member of St. Lawrence Deanery Council, longtime and active member of Christ Church of Morristown, Vestry Member, a member of Healing Team, Lay Reader, L.E.M., Men’s Bible Study Member, Life in the Spirit Seminar Member, Tuesday Night Prayer & Praise Member, Annual Men’s Retreats Member at Wadham’s Hall, Diocese of Albany – Episcopal Healing Training 1,2,3,. Alpha Training, Loaves & Highs Food Volunteer, Parish Hall Construction Team, Parish Rep @ Deanery Leadership Conferences, Building & Grounds Member, Marriage Encounter, Member of E.E. (Evangelism Team), Attended Jesus, 80 @ Mt. Union, PA, and Attended Annual Diocesan Conventions.
