A private family service for Dorothy J. Hunt, age 84 of Canton, and previously of Hudson, FL and Morristown, NY will be held at Foxwood Memorial Park with Deacon David Demerse officiating. Mrs. Hunt passed away on Tuesday (February 18, 2020) at the Riverledge Healthcare Facility. A Celebration of Life service for friends and family will be held at a time to be determined in the spring.
Surviving are two sons Timothy Hunt & his wife Amy of Canton, Jeffrey Hunt & his wife Michele of Canton; a daughter Jolene Risley of New Smyrna Beach, FL; 8 grandchildren Tori Hunt, Lexi Hunt, Parker Hunt, Kate Huntley & her husband Dillon, Tyler Hunt & his wife Erin, Taylor Scott, Chip Risley & his wife Amanda, Allison Risley and four great-grandchildren Landon & Myla Huntley, Mackenzie, Evan & Haley Risley.
She was predeceased by her husband Timothy and son Steven in 2003 and a son in law Herbert Risley.
Dorothy was born on March 30, 1935 in Syracuse NY, a daughter of the late Charles & Roberta (Tate) Watson. She attended Alexandria Bay School and graduated from Theresa High in 1952. She continued her education at Canton ATI where she obtained a Business Degree in 1954.
Early in her career she worked for American Express in Philadelphia, PA and later with New York Airbrake Company in Watertown as a secretary. She later married her husband Timothy P. Hunt on August 31, 1957 at the Holy Family Church in Watertown and continued to work as a secretary for Pitluk Advertising in San Antonio, TX. Following her husband’s discharge from the military, the couple returned to Canton where she worked at the Canton Hospital in the radiology department as a secretary. The couple also owned and operated a store in Canton for many years. In 1969 she went back to Canton ATI where she received her Registered Nursing Degree in 1972. She then became employed at A Barton Hepburn Hospital for 12 years, St. Lawrence Psychiatric Center for 9 Years and then with Riverview Correction Facility until 1997 when she retired.
Dorothy enjoyed spending time with her friends and family, boating, watching her children play hockey, golfing, playing cards and spending time in Florida.
