A graveside service for Donald R. McPherson, age 69 of Ogdensburg and formerly of Massena, will be held on Wednesday (November 14, 2018) at 11:00am at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Ogdensburg with Deacon Anthony Pastizzo officiating.
Mr. McPherson passed away on Saturday (Nov 10, 2018) at the St. Joseph’s Nursing following the rapid progression of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis “ALS”.
Surviving are his two brothers Richard McPherson & Renard McPherson of Ogdensburg; a sister Susan McPherson & her companion Bob Bouchard of Ogdensburg; special nieces & nephews William McPherson of Ogdensburg, Elizabeth (Michael) Spooner of Rochester and Hunter McPherson of Ogdensburg along with other nieces, nephews & cousins.
He was predeceased by his longtime companion Bev Parago and his parents Allen & Hilda McPherson and a brother Roger McPherson.
Don was born on January 12, 1949 in Ogdensburg NY, a son of Allen & Hilda (Hill) McPherson. He graduated from St. Mary’s Academy and later continued his education at Mater Dei College where he majored in social work.
He entered the US Navy during the Vietnam War and later received his honorable discharge on November 1, 1970. Donald worked at the Wingdale State Hospital prior to returning to the North Country to work as a Therapy Aid at the Canton Potsdam Hospital. He then became employed at Alcoa in Massena where he worked as a laborer until he retired.
Donald was a member of the 7th Day Advent Church in Massena and he enjoyed attending church functions, reading, coffee hours socializing with friends, watching old movies with his companion Bev, cookouts with his family and watching Sunday football.
