Burial for Ann Marie Bennett, age 62, of 1249 State Highway 184, Heuvelton, will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday January 17, 2024. Mrs. Bennett passed away in the home of her eldest child on Monday, January 15, 2024.
Surviving are her husband Brian Bennett, her eldest, Kia-Beth Bennett of Heuvelton, two brothers, Paul McAllan of Westbrook, Maine and William (Natalie) McAllen of Hampstead, New Hampshire; a sister Jean (David) Harmon of Buxton, Maine; along with many nieces, nephews & cousins.
She was predeceased by her parents William & Emma Caroline Dufour McAllan and a daughter, Claire Bennett.
Ann was born on August 16, 1961 in Portland, Maine. She graduated high school and continued her education at the Portland School of Art and Tyler School of Art at Temple University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in photography and graphic design. She married Brian Bennett on June 11, 1983, and founded and managed Breakneck Brook Farm in West Baldwin, Maine, and Bittersweet Farm in Heuvelton. Ann spent the majority of her life as a horticulturist and was a member of Seed Savers Exchange in Decorah, Iowa. She is remembered by generations of seed keepers, soil builders and garden growers, and her spirit lives on in the plants she tended and loved.
