Alice H. Warren

Calling hours will be held on Friday, January 20, 2012 from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home in Ogdensburg, NY.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2012 at 11:00 AM at The United Methodist Church in Morristown with Pastor David Piatt and Pastor David Sheppard co-officiating. Burial at Sunnyside Cemetery in Morristown will follow the service.

Alice was born in the Township of Augusta, in the County of Grenville, Province of Ontario, Canada on the 9th day of January 1918; cherished daughter of Gordon & Arminda Nancy Whaley Reynolds. She had two brothers, Melvin Taylor & Gordon Clark Reynolds, both deceased.

Alice graduated from Garreton Shanty Noel Rural School. She married her childhood sweetheart, Joseph Willis Warren in 1938 in Montreal, Quebec. They migrated to the United States in 1938 and eventually settled in the Township of Morristown at the home farm in December, 1944. She and her husband became dairy farmers and completed their family with eleven children. Her loving lineage includes a bountiful 35 grandchildren, 71 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.

Surviving are her loving children and their spouses, J. Willis Warren & Gladys Sanford of Brier Hill, W. Howard & Sandra Warren of Morristown, Judy & Ronald Wright of Morristown, Linda & Carl Cutway of Rensselaer Falls, Sharon Logan of Norfolk, Barbara & Christian Turner of Macomb, Susan & Richard Ekman of Brier Hill, Katherine & Robert Gilmour of Morristown; daughters-in-law, Clara Warren of Morristown & Wendy Warren of Brier Hill, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Alice was predeceased by her husband Joseph W. in 1987. She was also predeceased by three of her dearly beloved children: a son, R. Joseph Warren in 1997, a daughter D. Carolyn Bickelhaupt in 2003, and a son D. Gordon Warren in 2008.

Grandma Alice, as she was commonly referred to by all who knew her, was an amazing lady. She always showed love and concern for everyone who touched her life. She had many wonderful friends and extended family members who loved to visit her and listen to her tell stories of the past, and of course share a meal as there was always room at Alice’s table.

Alice was also the family historian. She wrote daily in her journals documenting the weather of the day, visitors, births, weddings, family gatherings, etc. She saved newspaper articles and pictures and added those to her journals. She enjoyed playing cards and doing word puzzles. She prided herself on her vast collection of family pictures and albums and everyone who visited was shown them. Her dedication to preserving family pictures and history is truly a legacy to all her children and grandchildren. She was the true matriarch of her family and was proud of her role. Family was most important to Alice and times spent together were treasured moments. She taught her family honesty, integrity, courage, and great strength, values she always demonstrated. Her memory will be cherished forever.

Alice was a member of the United Methodist Church in Morristown and a past member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
