Sylvia Mae LaCour Clark, age 97, peacefully died on January 25, 2022, surrounded by family which she so dearly loved. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Hollice, 23 years ago and continued to marshal through as her seven children continued to grow the family tree.
She was born August 22, 1924, in Moreauville, LA to Joseph Wilfred LaCour and Annette Octavie Marcotte on a small farm. She was a gifted math student and after graduating as valedictorian, attended Southwest Louisiana University where she met and married Hollice in 1943.
Sylvia’s life largely revolved around family and the Catholic Church. She was a dedicated mother that focused on instilling values to her children while helping Hollice build a successful business here in Odessa. She treasured her children and embraced their every achievement.
She worked tirelessly with church, charity, and family, knowing how blessed she was to have the life she was afforded given her poor upbringing during the Great Depression. Her work ethic and moral fiber were typical of the Greatest Generation. She loved autobiographies, history, and politics as wells as grandkids, her cabin in the mountains of New Mexico and margaritas.
A devoted Catholic her entire life she made many friends through her varied groups at Church. She was a member of the Altar Society, Legion of Mary, and Why Catholic study group. She was very proud of the assistance that she and her husband were able to provide many of the Catholic Churches in Odessa, including St. Mary, Holy Redeemer, and St. Elizabeth Ann Seton.
Sylvia is survived by Christina Wright of San Angelo, TX; Minka & Scott Sibert, Holly & Wayne Perkins, Carmen & Mike Randolph, and LaCour Clark, all of Odessa, TX; Robbin & Anne Clark of Houston, TX and Kevin & Carleen Clark of Westminster, CO as well as 16 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
The family would be honored that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to the Alzheimer's Association, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Building Fund or Smile Train.
She made a positive impact on so many, and we are grateful to have been touched by her grace and strong hand as needed. The family thanks everyone who has touched her life and ours and made them richer. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.
A special thanks goes to those who worked so faithfully and diligently helping her in her last year; Maria Garcia, Maxine Sanchez, Crystal Ortiz and LaShaundra Kelly. Jessica Sotelo, Director of Health Care Services with Interim Healthcare Hospice, was a special person the last few days of her life also.
Sylvia will be interred at a private burial in Odessa, followed by a memorial mass and celebration of life at a later date.
