Stephen Garrett Smith

Stephen was born on August 9, 1953 in Corpus Christi, TX to John F. and Dorothy K. Smith. He graduated from Big Spring High School and later Texas Tech University with a degree in Civil Engineering. He met his wife, Paula Manes Smith, in Odessa, TX and they married on April 17, 1982.

Stephen worked for Texas Department of Transportation for 32 years before retiring in August 2016. Stephen loved roads, learning, his dogs, his church, and above all his family.

He is survived by his wife Paula of Odessa, daughter Sarah S. Johnson and her husband Jason Johnson of Austin, TX, and one grandchild, Elie Johnson. He is also survived by his sister, Cynthia Lawson, of Hobbs, NM and numerous nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held Sunday, January 7, 2018 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors in Odessa, TX. A celebration of his life will take place at Bethany Christian Church, 4522 N. Everglade in Odessa, TX on Monday, January 8, 2018 at 10:00 am and will be followed by a graveside service in Andrews, TX. Contributions may be made to Bethany Christian Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Frank W. Wilson Funeral Home in Odessa TX.
