The Vigil and rosary will be held at 7:00 pm, Thursday, March 28, 2019 at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. The funeral mass will be held at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church on Friday, March 29, 2019 at 1:00 pm with Father Fernando Bonilla officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Odessa.
Ruth was born May 4, 1930 in Rotan, TX to Marcos and Natividad Medrano. She went to school in Hobbs, TX. She was married to Tony Gonzalez on July 29, 1950 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Rotan, TX.
She was a homemaker and assisted her husband with his businesses. She was also a business woman herself as a Beauty Consultant for Mary Key Products for 20 years plus. She belonged to the American Business Women’s Association (ABWA). Ruth was a cheerful person who made friends easily. She was involved in many activities including the following: She attended St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Odessa until 1962 when their family moved to nearby Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. It was there that she was a member and past president of the Ladies Alter Rosary Society (LARS), the Diocesan Legion of Mary prayer group, and past president of the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women (DCCW). Her multiple charitable activities included visiting elderly women at nursing homes and shut-ins at home. She enjoyed traveling and took trips to London, Japan, China, Hawaii, Brazil, the Holy Land and Rome, Italy. She and her husband toured the United States in a motorhome.
Ruth is preceded in death by her parents, her sisters, Camila Galan, Hilaria Almanza, Natividad Lopez, Pauline Gonzales; her brothers, Marcos Medrano, Benito Medrano, Cayetano Medrano, and her son Antonio (Tony) Gonzalez.
Ruth is survived by her husband of 68 years, Deacon Tony Gonzalez, her daughters, Patricia Gonzales of Lubbock, Margie Kent (Randy) of San Antonio, and her son, Deacon Edward Gonzalez (Maria) of Odessa, and her brother, Ramon Medrano of Odessa; ten grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Alzheimer’s Association. The family wishes to thank the staff and all caregivers at Sienna Nursing and Rehabilitation Home, Home Hospice, and Holy Redeemer Catholic Church for their care of Ruth.
