Rita was born in San Antonio, Texas June 26, 1937. She was married to Efrain Ramirez October 18, 1962.
Rita was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by her brothers, Richard Murray, and Charles Flores; children, Efrain E. Ramirez, and Sally Pool; grandchildren Gary McMillan Jr and wife Taryn, Rita Shelby McMillan, Miranda Danielle Ramirez (and future grandson-in-law Daniel Luna), and Jeremy Wayne Hild; great grandchildren Jeremy Hild Jr. and Abbigail Viviann McMillan and future great granddaughter Taytum Elizabeth McMillan.
Rita graduated Burbank High School in San Antonio, Texas and moved on to graduate from Sul Ross with a bachelor’s or Arts degree in Education and moved to Odessa where she worked for ECISD. She taught first grade and bilingual kindergarten for over 30 years and then became the children’s minister at Sherwood Baptist Church. She also taught child development and managed the daycare at Odessa College.
Her hobbies were sewing, cake decorating, and working with plastics as her father taught her. Furthermore, Rita was known for her belief in Christ. She served as a Sunday school teacher, committee member and faithful member of several Odessa churches.
As the disease got worse Rita cherished her family pictures, stories, and the visits she received by her son and daughter. She also loved getting card and letters from church friends and neighbors. She never ceased to ask about the children.
Visitation with the family will be at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home on Friday, May 28, 2021 from 6:00PM- 8:00PM. A celebration will be held for Rita Sally Ramirez at Crescent Park Baptist Church, Saturday, May 29, 2021 at 10:00am. Graveside service will follow at Sunset Memorial.
