Raymond Lee Roberts (Ray) was born on April 8, 1941, in Snomac, OK, and died on October 28, 2015, in Brownwood, Texas.
Ray came with his parents to Odessa, Texas in 1952, where he attended Odessa High School. At the age of 17, he became a professional Country music singer and guitar player; he played gigs all over Texas and New Mexico up until he died. He performed with some of the Country Greats such as Bob Wills, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings and Merle Haggard, and when asked why he never went to Nashville he simply said “I was too busy.”
He was preceded in death by his mother Mildred and his son Brent.
He is survived by his father Edwin, his former wife and lifelong companion Lenda Starns (mother of Brent and grandmother of Derek), his brother Michael, his grandson Derek, many cousins, aunts and a host of friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, November 4, 2015, at Hubbard-Kelly Chapel with Rev. Leon Cliff officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
