Melvin Ray Herrington

Melvin Ray was born at home in Bradshaw TX, on 7/28/35 to the late Melvin Lee Herrington and Johnnie Mae. He graduated from Odessa High School and continued on to Odessa College to receive his associate's degree. He was married to Veneta Shipman on July 10th, 1959. They were married for 65 years.

Melvin Ray was a proud veteran of the United States Army, Having served from 1955 to 1958. He was a dedicated member of the 11th Airborne division stationed in Germany. He ended his military with a total of 17 jumps. Melvin then moved on to pursuing work in the oilfield where he dedicated over 40 years of his life. He started off as a roughneck and worked his way up to a consultant for several different companies.

Melvin Ray enjoyed Hunting, Fishing, watching football and camping at the beach with his family and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a Dallas Cowboys fan.

Melvin Ray is survived by his wife Veneta, Sister Diane Branch, Son James Herrington (Robbin), Daughters Kelli Todd, Robin Martin, Rebecca Blackburn (Andy), Julie Akin (Robbie), Brittney Pipenger (Christopher), 15 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

Melvin Ray is preceded in death by his Father Melvin Lee Herrington, His mother Johnnie Mae Goin and Stepfather Gene Goin, Grandson Sean Martin, Granddaughter Hannah Akin.

The family wishes to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers as well as his caretakers at Express Nursing and the staff at Interim Health Care hospice.

A graveside service for Melvin will be held Monday, July 29, 2024 at 2:30 PM at Bradshaw Cemetery, CR 622, Bradshaw, TX.
