On Tuesday, September 13, 2011 our precious Mom and Grandma, Mary Lois Mayo, 87, went to Heaven to join her Lord and Savior and her beloved husband, Lee R. Mayo. She was born April 1, 1924 in Ennis, Texas. She was the 6th child of Joe and Myrtle Toal.
Mary and “Tom” Mayo were united in marriage on July 4, 1940 in Harlingen, Texas. They moved to Odessa in 1952 where they raised 4 boys. She worked for the Ector County Independent School District at Ector High School and later at the Administration Building where she (and her famous tea cakes) retired after 20 years of service.
Mary was a faithful member of Faith Tabernacle Assembly of God. She was very active in the Women’s Ministry. She was a true friend to many that knew they could call her if they needed anything.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, her parents, 2 brothers, 3 sisters & daughter-in-law, Frankie Mayo.
Survivors include her sons Tommy Mayo of Odessa, James Mayo and wife Sharron of Krum, Texas; Henry Mayo and wife Laura of Edinburg, Texas and Richard Mayo and wife Karen of Odessa; sisters Nellie Anderson and Minnie Goettel of Harlingen, Texas; brother Joe Toal and wife Donna of Houston, Texas; 13 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Terry Mayo, Doyle Burnett, Jaime Nave, Joel Gallimore, Ronnie Patteson, Rodney Mayo, Mike Tamez, Jacob Mayo, and Daniel Sullivan.
Family Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, September 15, 2011 at Hubbard Kelly. Services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 16, 2011 at Faith Tabernacle Assembly of God officiated by Rev. Joe Mayo. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
