Mary Frances (Phillips) Dunn passed peacefully to her Heavenly Reward on June 9, 2022. She was born February 18, 1929 in Big Spring, Texas to Olie R. and Beulah Mae Phillips. She moved with her family to Midland, Texas where she attended school, graduating from Midland High School in 1946. She then attended Hardin-Simmons University where she met and married the love of her life. Mary Frances married Jimmie W. Dunn, naval aviator, and enjoyed 64 years of wedded bliss until his death in 2013.
Frances and Jimmie moved to Odessa in 1955 where they raised their five children. They were involved in their children’s lives through their sports, band and other activities throughout their childhood and teenage years.
After her children were in school, Frances demonstrated her life long love of children by becoming the director of the Day Care Center, Children’s Services and Mother’s Day out at Crescent Baptist Church and Emmanuel Baptist Church.
Another passion near and dear to her heart was the Fine Arts in Odessa. She was a longtime volunteer member of the Juliet Society and was on the Board of the Globe Theater for many years. Her volunteer duties included everything from cleaning the theater to preparing meals for the actors to costume design, fund raising and ushering at the plays and other events.
Frances was also a docent at the Ellen Noel Art Museum where she described and explained the different pieces of art to visitors to the museum.
Frances was a member of the Marian G. White Study Club, holding many local and state offices within that organization.
Frances had many other hobbies and interests included enjoying activities at the house at Lake Coleman and spending time at the family farm and ranch, especially when baby calves were being born.
Her grandchildren always held a special place in her heart and she loved each and every one of them with a fierce love only a grandmother can have.
Frances was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Jimmie Dunn. She is survived by her children, John R. Dunn and wife, Maria of Corpus Christi; James Mark Dunn and wife Jeannie of Round Rock; Ellen Dunn Sablan and husband Frank of Midland; Jack E. Dunn of Midland and Janis Dunn Morgan and husband Michael of Odessa.
Grandchildren are John Poynor, Jessica Dunn, Alexandria Benedict, James Roy Dunn, Jacquelyn Dunn, Joseph Morgan, Mariah Keesee and Jeremiah Dunn; as well as seven great grandchildren.
The family wishes to thank a very special member of our family, Maria Haynes. As our Mother’s caretaker, Maria brought not only the highest level of care, but enrichment, joy and love to her life.
Because Frances was a lifelong Christian and as believers we know that she is not only with her heavenly father, but her husband, our father as well. We look forward to the day, we will all be reunited again.
The family will receive friends Monday, June 13, 2022 from 6-8 PM at the funeral home. Funeral services will be Tuesday, June 14, 2022 at 10 AM at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home followed by burial at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
