Martha Colleen Hartwig, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother took the hand of our Lord Jesus Christ on Tuesday, November 27, 2018 at the age of 72 surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on March 31, 1946 in Gladewater, Texas to Hubert & Colleen Palmer. She graduated from Odessa High School in 1964 and after graduation, she attended Odessa College and earned her nursing degree. She began her nursing career at High Plains Baptist Hospital in Amarillo, Texas. It was while working in Amarillo, that she met the love of her life, Roger. They married on April 19, 1969 and stayed in Amarillo to begin building their life and family, moving to Odessa in 1973. Martha continued her nursing career by working at Medical Center Hospital in the emergency room for over 11 years and then moving over to Texas Tech where she retired after 15 years of service. She loved working close with all the new residents as they began their medical careers and made some life long friends along the way. After retirement, she became an avid do it yourself kinda person, always doodling on any piece of paper she could find all the projects of things she wanted to build. She truly loved power tools, working in her yard on a pretty day along with her beloved dog Max and listing to good ole gospel music.
She is preceded in death by her parents and husband Roger, who all welcomed her at the gates of heaven. Those left to cherish and honor her memory are her brother Eldon Palmer & wife Linda of Odessa, TX; son Lee Hartwig & wife Carla of Odessa, TX; son Tim Hartwig & wife Paola of Taylor Lake Village, TX; grandchildren Adam Walker & wife Melanie of Odessa, TX; Annebelle Rodriguez & husband Mario of Pleasanton, TX; Alex Hartwig & fiancée Crystal Dow of Odessa, TX; Trinity Hartwig & wife Audriana of Odessa, TX; and Gavin Hartwig of Lake Village, Texas and 3 great grandchildren.
The family would like to thank Kristin, Melissa and all the staff of Hospice of Odessa for all the loving care that they bestowed upon Martha the last month of her life. We also would like to thank Crossland Care and most especially Nancy Espinoza for taking such great care of our mom.
Visitation will be at Hubbard Kelly Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 4, 2018 with the family from 6-8 pm. A celebration of her life will be held graveside on Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at Sunset Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home at 1:00 pm.
Mom, you will always be in on our minds and forever in our hearts – until we meet again!
