A lover of life, a friend of many, Lester was known for his culinary skills, and his laughter, and at times his stern and stubbornness could be seen with a quiet watchful eye as he would note his disapproval. A man of few words, Lester spoke at one speed- fast. If you kept him on the phone longer than a minute it was a major accomplishment.
He was the family cook at reunions and many would sit and watch him bar-b-que. After becoming ill, family even made a special trip to try and capture his technique and secrets. Lester was a chef extraordinaire to his family and friends and his bar-b-que was fondly dubbed Shaw-b-que by his children.
A man of many names: ”Lesto” to his wife of 55 years, ”Sonny Boy” to his brothers, sisters, “La ta de” to nieces and nephews as he sang to them all when they were small, and what he treasured most Daddy and PaPa.
Lester enjoyed cooking, an occasional fisherman, and a dog lover. He possessed an unusual wit. He smiled and joked until the end. He was a caregiver of home and others continually doing and working where he saw a need, whether at home, church or in the community. If he didn’t do it, he saw to it getting done.
