He attended Texas A & M University, on a golf scholarship. Ken enjoyed flying his own plane and was very active in his church. He was always quick with a joke to make you smile, and a hug to make your day better. Later in life he was blind, but that didn't keep him from being active in his community. He was always accompanied by his friendly service dogs Rajah, Kara, and Dino.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister Barbara J. Porter and her husband Ben H. Porter, and his son J. J. Sheppard.
He is survived by his brother Alan Johnson and sister Judy Johnson, wife Ruth Briggs Johnson, previous wife LaVerne Zimmerman Birdwell, children Debbie Johnson Court, Kenneth Greggory Johnson, Chris Sheppard, Tina Johnson, Regina Johnson Campbell, and grandchildren Trevor, Rebecca, Clayton Johnson, Matthew Webb, Max Sheppard, Kristine Campbell, Jae Lynne and Misty Whitaker, and great grandchild Oliver Johnson and one soon-to-be born in January 2018.
Services will be held on Saturday, December 30, 2017, 3:00 pm at Highland United Methodist Church, 1808 N Dixie, Odessa, Texas, in the sanctuary, to be buried at Sunset Memorial Gardens at a later date, with Pastor Dustin Burrow officiating.
In lieu of flowers please send donations to Seeing Eye, Inc., 10 Washington Valley Rd, Morristown, NJ 07960, the wonderful people who trained and provided him with service dogs for the blind over the years.
