ODESSA June Annette Ashton, 87, died Monday, Jan. 14, 2013, at Parks Methodist Retirement Village. She was born in LaPorte, Indiana in 1925 and was married to Warren Charles “Chuck” Ashton for 34 years before his death in 1987. She moved to Kerrville, Texas in 1953 where her only son Skipper “Skip” Ashton was born. The next move was to Phoenix, Arizona where she resided until moving to Odessa in 2005. She had lived on a 10 acre “ranch” north of Phoenix for over 45 years before her move here at the age of 80.
June worked for General Electric starting in 1959 and continued working there for well over 35 years until her retirement. When she started working there it was the beginning of the computer age and the location she worked at was very involved in the early development of the business computer. Honeywell later purchased that division and June then worked in the Human Resources division.
June was very active in the Kaiser Fraser car club for over 33 years. She and Chuck served as national Secretary-Treasurer for several years. During her involvement in the club she also helped organize several national K-F meets. June also edited the monthly news bulletin for the local club until her move in 2005.
June is survived by her son Skipper “Skip” Ashton and wife Twila of Odessa, Texas, granddaughter Julie Christenson and husband Craig of Grand Prairie, Texas, granddaughter Dawn Lane and husband Alan of Houston, Texas, four great-grandchildren, Erica and Noah Christenson and Gage and Seth Lane and nephews David Wright of Phoenix, Arizona and Todd and wife Cheryl Wright of Show Low, Arizona.
Memorial services are scheduled at 2 p.m. Friday at Crossroads Fellowship with the Rev. David Newton officiating. Arrangements are by Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. The family requests that a donation be made in June’s memory to the Crossroads Fellowship’s Next Big Thing in lieu of sending flowers.
