Jose E. Munoz, 89, of Odessa, entered into God's Kingdom accompanied by the blessed mother on September 13, 2015. Known to all as "PoPo", "Big Joe", or "Uncle Joe". Born on September 25, 1925 in Terlingua, TX, to Pascual Munoz and Audelia Munoz. Jose was drafted into the U.S Army at the age of 18, to serve his country during World War II. He received basic training in Camp Wolters (Mineral Wells, TX) from there he was shipped to serve in the South Pacific, 2871st Engineer Utility Detachment. He received honorable discharge on December 10th, 1947, place of separation Fort Sam Houston (Houston, TX).
He returned to the states where he met the love of his life, and entered into the Holy Sacrament of marriage with Margarita Miranda on December 27, 1947 at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Alpine, TX. Through this union, Jose and Margarita were blessed with 6 children. Jose loved working on his cars, spending time outdoors, listening to music, watching baseball and football, and spending time with his family. Many times he was known to treat his nephews, and the neighborhood kids, to hot dogs, hamburgers, cokes, and homemade ice cream. He would often take his nieces and nephews on family vacations. Jose left the 3rd grade to help support his family, After his self taught & passion of reading, His history came. Jose's gift of music shined through his ability to play guitar, Jose was a guitarist starting at a young age he saved his money from selling food and pastries his mother would make to purchase his first guitar, a Gene Autry, from a Sear's catalog. As he grew up in Terlingua, TX dances were held on the weekends where he was asked to play with other musicians. He took joy in playing the guitar for his family on Sundays and on holidays.
He is joined in heaven by his father; Pascual Munoz, mother; Audelia Munoz, brothers; Santos Munoz Sr. Samuel Munoz (Sammy) sisters; Lupe Loya, Eufracia Villa (Pacha), Delores Hernandez (Nana), Maria Luisa Galindo (La Vicho), Ausencion Ramirez (La Gringa), Mary White (La Cuca), and son in-law; Reynaldo “ Ray” Rodriquez. He leaves to celebrate his life: Wife, Margarita Munoz of Odessa; Daughters, Elida Rodriguez of Odessa; Elva Munoz of Odessa; Erlinda Huertas and husband Alfredo Huertas of Odessa; Ester Pineda husband Daniel Pineda of Grand Junction, Colorado; Sons, Jose Munoz and wife Elvia Munoz of Odessa; Joel Munoz and wife Susan Munoz of Odessa; 12 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grand child; Brothers; Pascual Munoz Jr., Andres Munoz, Jose Antonio Munoz (Tony), Ruben Munoz, and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers: Antonio "Tony" Munoz, Daniel "Danny" Munoz, Joe Garcia, Santos "Sonny" Munoz Jr., Manny Hernandez, Andres "Andy" Munoz, Alfredo Huertas Jr., Willie Balerio Jr., Teddy Balerio, David Balerio, Mark Huertas, Jose Alfredo Munoz and Carolyn Huertas.
The family would like to thank everyone for your condolences, flowers, food and continued prayers. We would also like to express our gratitude to the nursing staff at Star Hospice and Dr. Agusala. Jose was a fighter and a hard working man, with a heart of gold, who loved his family unconditionally, he will be forever missed. Visitation will be held today Wednesday September 16, 2015 from 8:00 am to 9:00 pm with a Rosary at 7:00 pm at Odessa Funeral Home. Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am Thursday, September 17, 2015, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Ector County Cemetery, Los Angeles Section.
