Jewel Taylor, 89, of Odessa passed away Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at the Hospice House. She was born October 22, 1922 in Eastland County, TX to Matthew Andrew & Mary Viola (Dollberry) Justice. She was a retired florist and a Baptist.
Jewel was a wonderful and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She was a “jewel” to anyone who had the pleasure of knowing her. She was a joyful spirit with a heart of gold, always willing to lend a helping hand to family and friends under any circumstances. She was well known by family and friends for her good down home cooking. There were many meals and desserts served with love from her kitchen. She loved serving others and loved having her family near at all times. Two of her favorite hobbies were playing cards and crocheting. She could play cards for hours and loved to crochet blankets and throws for others.
Jewel was a devoted employee, giving 30 years of dedicated service to Mark Knox Flowers as a floral designer. She also was a devoted wife, married to Norman Maurice Taylor for over 60 years.
You could clearly see the depth of her love for others through her wonderful and always present smile. She was truly a jewel in our lives and her memory will always be treasured.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Norman Taylor, (5) brothers, (2) sisters, granddaughter, Nikki Michele Burns, great-grandson, Allen Lumpkin Walker.
She is survived by her daughters: Barbara Kay Burns & husband Bobby, Judy Joiner, Norma Jean White & husband Ronnie all of Odessa, (6) grandchildren: Lisa Covington & husband John, Ann Lumpkin & husband Mike, Norman Burns, Jeannie Gallagher & husband Shane, Kayla Joiner & Jennifer Cowan & husband B.J., (12) great-grandchildren & (3) great-great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 10, 2012 at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Rev. Ronnie Newton officiating.
