James Steven (Steve) Simpson was born on January 28, 1956, in Burkburnett, Texas, to Wanda and James Simpson. He peacefully passed away at the age of 67 at his home in Odessa, Texas, on October 7, 2023.
He spent most of his childhood in Rule, Texas, and in 1972, his family relocated to Odessa, Texas. Steve attended both Permian and Odessa High schools, graduating in 1974. It was in Odessa where he met the love of his life, Sandra Kay.
Steve and Sandy tied the knot on February 22, 1975, and together they raised their three children: daughter Stephanie Simpson, sons Aaron Simpson (wife Nicole), and Allan Simpson (wife Alecia), all residing in Odessa, Texas. He was a loving Papa to his grandchildren Emily, Chase, Austin, Andrew, William, Mackenzie, and his granddog PayPay.
On May 26, 1973, Steve was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses, and for the next 50 years, he faithfully fulfilled various responsibilities within the community. One of his most cherished duties, for which he is primarily remembered, was cooking for the Regional Building Committee. He always added everyone's favorite ingredients-love and laughter, even to the cabbage.
Throughout the past five decades, Steve became well-known in the Permian Basin for his involvement in several businesses, particularly in the plumbing industry since 1988. In recent years, he dedicated himself to building a successful family business, I Fix Pipe, alongside his son Aaron. Steve's unwavering commitment, expertise, and entrepreneurial spirit will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Steve was beloved for his quick wit, sense of humor, generosity with his time and energy, and his loyalty as a friend. He was also a "spiritual dad" to many and had a genuine love for life and people.
He was preceded in death by his parents. Steve is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, his brother Phil Simpson (wife Sherri) of Canyon Lake, TX, his sister LeAnn Forney (husband Kanon) of Carthage, TX, Nelda and Joel Shumaker of Alpharetta, GA, as well as nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends who were like family.
A memorial service will be held in his honor at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses located at 1750 East 87th St, Odessa, TX, on October 14, 2023, at 3 p.m.
Steve firmly believed in the promise of Revelation 21:3-4 and eagerly looked forward to the day when it becomes a reality. We hold onto that hope tightly.
