Jack was born on the Hatchett Ranch in Callahan County on February 11, 1930 to Effie and Joe Bailey McIntosh. He died on February 10, 2011 one day shy of being 81. He spent most of his younger years in Callahan County, and graduated from Novice High School in 1947 where he played basketball. He went to college at Sul Ross in Alpine.
He married Joann Riley on September 20, 1952 at the 6th and Jackson Church of Christ in Odessa. They had two children.
He spent his working life in the oil field from rough-necking, owning his own drilling rig, running core barrels and oil field sales. He worked all over the United States but spent most of his time in West Texas. He worked in a different oil field than we have now where they worked hard and played harder and he had a tremendous amount of friends that he stayed in touch with through all the years.
Daddy was interested in Rodeo, Permian High School football, fishing and his lake house at Brady, Texas where he and mother had a lot of good friends and memories. He loved his family and whenever we all got together it seemed like we always ended up at Daddy’s house and that’s when the party started.
He had a stroke when he was 68 and in May, 2000 began living at Parks Methodist Retirement Center. He never let the stroke get him down and proceeded on in life just like before having fun and entertaining everyone. The people at Parks were very special to him.
He was preceded in death by his wife Joann, father Joe, mother Effie, his brother Leonard Weathers McIntosh who was killed in action January 31, 1945 in World War II and brother-in-law B.C. Garrison.
He is survived by son L. W. “T” McIntosh and wife Karla of Odessa, daughter Cindy and husband Don Earl Fortner of Odessa, grandchildren Lt. Jack Benjamin McIntosh and wife Stefanie of Oklahoma City, Bailey Joann McIntosh of Dallas, Robbie Shan Cox and husband Cary, great-grandchildren Jackson and Wyatt of Sterling, Virginia.
