Ima Ruth was born in Haworth, Oklahoma on February 28, 1926, to John Dendy and Julie Farley Dendy. She attended and graduated from Idabel High School. She married Thad Dupree Roach in January 1945 in Idabel, Oklahoma. They moved to Goldsmith in 1947 and had two sons. They moved their home to Odessa, TX in 1972 and were married for 40 years until Thad’s death in 1985. Ima Ruth remained in Odessa where she lived independently in the home they made together and that she loved dearly. Her home was so important to her and many memories live within those walls where she raised her sons and welcomed extended family often.
She worked as a food service manager for Ector County ISD in Goldsmith and retired from that work after 26 years. One of Ima Ruth’s many talents was cooking and she enjoyed preparing meals for school kids and her family. Her specialties according to her family were her homemade yeast rolls and cream pies. She was a member of the Church of Christ.
Ima Ruth is survived by her sons, Denny and his wife Deborah of Carbon and Larry and his wife Sue of Odessa. She is also survived by her 5 grandchildren who affectionately called her “Mama Ruth”. They are Dr. Jay Roach DDS and his wife Debbie of San Antonio, Carrie (Roach) Hopkins and her husband Neil of Ennis, Kelley (Roach) Rasco and her husband Kirby of Granbury, Jennifer Roach of Georgetown, and Jason Roach and his wife Allison of Lubbock. She is also survived by 13 adoring great-grandchildren, Taylor Roach, Bailey Roach, Mason Hopkins, Morgan Hendrix and her husband Kage, Marlee Hopkins, Kelsey Kacal, Abbey Kacal, Caleb Kacal, Jayden Kacal, Sydney Collazos, Evan Collazos, Owen Collazos and Kate Collazos.
Ima Ruth is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Thad, her parents John and Julie Dendy, three brothers, William W. Dendy, Bert Dendy, Johnny Dendy, and two sisters, Louise Lindsey and Bennie Quillen.
Her entire family knew what a treasure they had in sweet “Mama Ruth”. She was devoted, thoughtful, strong, generous, wise, and witty. Her greatest joy was her family and she wanted them all to know how much she loved them. Whenever they told her they loved her, she would answer “I do you, too!”. Well Mama Ruth, “we do you, too! She will be missed dearly.
A viewing will be available Friday, June 2, 2023 from 8:00 AM – 1:00 PM at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home, 601 N Alleghaney Ave, Odessa, Texas 79761. A graveside service will be held Friday, June 2, 2023 at 2:30 PM at Sunset Memorial Gardens, 6801 E I-20 Business Loop, Odessa, Texas 79762.
