Helen Louise Spratlen

Helen Louise Spratlen, 80, passed away on June 17, 2011, in Odessa, TX. She was born in Kelton, TX October 13, 1930 to Stroud K. Bearden and Jewell Mae Teurman Bearden. Her father followed construction and as a result, she spent most of her childhood traveling throughout Texas, New Mexico and Arizona. Her family eventually settled in Odessa where she graduated from Odessa High School in 1950. In 1951, she married William Maurice Spratlen. He preceded her in death in 1997 after almost 46 years of marriage. She was also preceded in death by her parents, a sister (Mildred Clemmons) and a brother (Charles D. Bearden). She enjoyed quilting, needle work, sewing and many other crafting activities. She made sure all of her family members had a piece of her handiwork. She was very active in the Northside Senior Citizens’ group and loved going to different places participating in their line-dancing demonstrations. She was also a member of Sherwood Baptist Church. She is survived by her children - Donna M. Johnson, John A. Spratlen and wife Sandy, Michael R. Spratlen and wife Selina; sisters - Alice L. Busby and husband Bill and Linda L. Junker and husband Jean; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren and a large extended family. Grave Side services are under the direction of Odessa Funeral Home and will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Monday, June 20, 2011 at 1:00pm with Pastor Phillip Skelton officiating. Visitation will be held at Odessa Funeral Home, Sunday June 19, 2011 from 2:00 to 9:00.
