Frank X. Mooney, 80 , beloved husband of Mary (Mimi) Mooney, Odessa ,Texas passed away on December 4, 2010 at his home surrounded and supported by his family and close friends. Frank was born in Gary, IN the son of Frank and Helen Mooney with two siblings, Jack Mooney (deceased) and Mary Alice Davis. He and Mimi have lived in Odessa for the past fifty years and he is survived by his four children and their spouses Frank and Sandy Mooney, Houston TX. Kathy and Gary McNeil , Midland, TX; Karen and Bob Nimon, Houston, TX; and Jim and Monica Mooney, Odessa, TX; eight grandchildren. Miriam Mooney, Joshua Parkinson(deceased), Matt Parkinson, Elizabeth Bailey, Emily Nimon, Martha Nimon, Taryn Mooney, Ashli Olivas; and one great grandchild, Joshua Olivas .
Frank graduated from Xavier University in Cincinnati, and served in the US Army with a tour of duty in the Korean War. In 1956, Frank and Mimi were married in Pittsburgh, PA and then moved to Odessa in 1960 with Armco Steel. His career continued with the founding of Western Pipe Sales, providing the oil filed industry with tubing and pipe sales throughout the central, western and southeastern areas of the country. Locally, Frank was dedicated in his service to St. Mary’s Church and served on the Parish Council and School Board of St. Mary’s Central Catholic School and was a member of the Board of Directors of the Permian Basin Oil Show for many years.
An athlete in high school and college, Frank remained a sports enthusiast throughout his life and was a vocal fixture at Odessa sporting events, especially in support of his children and grandchildren. He also coached boy’s baseball and readily encouraged the development of players’ skills and’ love of the game’.
Frank’s love of life, generosity and loyalty touched everyone he knew and changed the lives of many. His kind ways will be remembered and shared, and their positive effects will continue to be passed on to countless others.
A Rosary service will be held on Monday evening at 7:00 pm at St. Mary’s Church. At 11:00 on Tuesday, a funeral Mass celebrated by Rev. Santiago Udayar will also be held at St. Mary’s located at 18th and Adams, Odessa, Texas.
Memorials in Frank’s name can be made to St. Mary’s Central Catholic School.
