Frances Gist Hanson, 86, of Odessa, left this world to enter the presence of Jesus on April 27, 2016. Born on August 11, 1929 to Huron and Ethel Gist of Colorado City, TX, Frances was the eldest of three daughters. Early on she displayed a sense of being strong willed, or what many might say, she had “grit”. This would carry her through many different challenges along life’s journey. She grew up a country girl in Colorado City. She attended elementary school in Buford, just down the road; in high school she played basketball, a member of the Wolverines, and graduated from Colorado City High School in 1947. She went to work and married shortly after. Frances gave birth to two children, Jay Motley (1950) and Janet Hanson (1959) both of Odessa. She was a hard worker, but rodeo always had a special place in her heart, so much so, that she operated a summer barrel racing clinic called Frances Hanson Barrel Racing School in Gardendale, TX. She worked for V & B Drilling for many years afterwards as an administrative assistant, until she retired. Frances is preceded in death by her parents Huron and Ethel Gist, her former son-in-law, Marc Raines, and her granddaughter, Crystal Motley Bonds. This mother, Nana, sister, and friend is survived by her sisters, Dorothy Bourland of Midland, TX and her two sons and Marie Voss and husband, Bill of Snyder, TX and their three daughters; her daughter, Janet Hanson Raines Flippin and husband, Monty of Odessa; her son, Jay Motley of Odessa; her grandchildren Lindsey Raines Lumpkin and husband, Eric of Odessa and Ross Raines and wife, Audra of Mansfield, TX. Great grandchildren include Zeke and Aria Raines and Baylee Bonds. Graveside services will be held in Colorado City, Texas at the Colorado City Cemetery on Monday, May 9, 2016 at 11:00 a.m.
Arrangements are by Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.
